“You are full of possibilities” Advice to his 15-year-old self from Author Jes Battis

April 3, 2017

One of the best things about getting my novel published? Meeting other authors.  I think as you read this powerful interview with Jes Battis, you’ll understand what I mean. What Jes says below is what every young adult needs to hear–and more than once.

I met Jes a few weekends ago in Los Angeles at the Medieval Association of the Pacific’s annual conference. This year I was part of a panel on modernizing medieval works. Sitting alongside me at the table were Kim Zarins, author of Sometimes We Tell the Truth—a modern retelling of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales—and Jes Battis, author of the Parallel Parks and the Occult Special Investigator series.  I’ve never...

The Salish Sea. A regarder en boucle.

The golden Salish Sea at Semiahmoo that filled my lens a few summers ago, and this video my sister Kaye caught last night.

Free Poster and Worksheets for Educators!

March 29, 2017

First 10 to respond!  Are you using TINAWS in your classroom, library, or reading it with your child at home? I have an 11×17 flyer I’d love to send to you. One side has a poster with a quote from the book so that everyone can enjoy Maike Plenzke’s cover, the other has two activities you can use to help them meet writing and math standards.

Each activity will fit on a regular 8.5×11 sheet of paper, or you can make a larger copy of both for them to spread out on their desk. Use the contact form on my website to send me an address, or DM me on Twitter at @sandraevans111.

And don’t forget to sign...

Reading Group Guide Available

March 26, 2017

Simon & Schuster has just added a Reading Group Guide to the official site for This is Not a Werewolf Story. I hope this will provide a convenient and easy-to-access resource for educators and book clubs.  Thanks to the lovely Ms. LeClercq for the photo of her whiteboard!

Pink’s is for medievalists

March 25, 2017

First I got to talk about This is Not a Werewolf Story with a bunch of people who love medieval literature as much as I do, then I got to go to Pink’s. Best long weekend ever, thanks to the Medieval Association of the Pacific, Loyola Marymount University, and my fellow panelists Jes Battis and Kim Zarins. Who knew there were so many of us writing YA works inspired by our scholarship?
